Hello Reinhard,
I am happy to see, that there are steps made into the right direction, when it comes to our environment.
What do you think, which are the next steps towards more “green” ERP-systems? Are there more ways, we could go? And will we stop the steadily increasing CO2 output?
If I think of the sitation, that every big Tech Corp wants us to go into the cloud, this means for me more CO2 issues, not less.
And I don’t really believe their CO2 reduction programs, e.g. MSFT to become neutral in 2030.
There are a couple of things that can be done directly and indirectly when it comes to ERP.
As an example, how many test/dev/trial environments do you have sitting somewhere around that are kind of left over from go live. They consume storage & database space and make datacenters full of data that nobody needs. Just deleting those old machines would help.
When it comes to AI / ML … think whether there are other simpler and easier ways that need less energy such as e-invoices rather than OCR tools. That’s what this post was about.
Then you can introduce or change your travel policies and e.g. request employees to always use green means of transport (train vs. flights). If you combine this with travel requisitions managers need to take over responsibility for the Co2 emissions that employees cause. Here is a post on that topic: https://dynamicsax-fico.com/2021/11/25/finance-related-sustainability-actions-2/
There are more things that can be done but I hope this gives you some ideas where to get started.

Another thing would be to reduce your ‘dark data’. I posted something on that some time ago. Please see: https://dynamicsax-fico.com/tag/dark-data/

Also related to your ERP are the financial institutions (banks) that you use. There are green banks and other banks and what you choose can make a big difference. Pleas see: https://dynamicsax-fico.com/2021/09/27/finance-related-sustainability-actions-1/
