This webcast shows how you can calculate, create and post reserves for bad debt in MSDyn365FO.
Recording bad debt reserves was always an area that required costly system modifications in previous Dynamics versions. With MSDyn365FO you do not need to spend money for that but can rather make use of the full Microsoft business solution power to get bad debt reserves incorporated in the standard application without writing a single line of code.

Tx Ludwig. Your stuff is always good. Pity that Sharepoint and flow needs to be used.

Thx Ludwig. One question, can the report and reverse postings be run on a date in the past. Lets say that I wish to run this on the 1st day of next month, but “as per” last late of prior month.

Hello Silas, In the post I made use of the custtransopen table that shows the open customer transactions at the time I run the report. If you are interested in the open customer transactions that existed a month ago you can also realize that with the help of electronic reporting. The issue in this case is that the calculations that you have to make are more complex. As an example, you would have to identify the transactions that have been settled within the last month and exclude that from the balance. Also newly created invoices would have to be excluded to arrive at the open balance of the customer invoices 4 weeks ago. I have not tried doing that but believe that this can be achieved. However, as I mentioned the complexity increases and to be honest, I do not think that it makes such a big difference if your sales and the payment ‘patterns’ of your customers are relatively stable over the year. If you see large fluctuations in sales and if you see many customers defaulting for example because of an economic crisis, the approach that I used can certainly be improved. Yet, in the latter case of an economic crisis the question is whether posting of reserves will help your business or whether other measures need to be taken. Hope this helps. Best regards, Ludwig

I see that it adds some complexity to look back in time. I only interested in making the report a couple days back in time (example, running the report on July 1st, but as per June 30th. This is because we might receive payment late on June 30th, and not be able to book these in D365 until the next day. These could have some impact on the reverse.
Regarding quarter- or year-end, the auditors will expect the report to be run per last day on quarter or year.
I will have to look further in the electronic reporter.

Hello Dan Dang, What do you mean exactly with the header? Do you refer to the header line of the Excel template? I can send you the Excel template that I used for this post to your email if you like. Please let me know. Many thanks and best regards Ludwig

Hi Ludwig, Thank you very much. I don’t know where I did it wrong but I only got one record instead of many. Even with your sample file. Do you have any idea?

Hi, It is probably the binding to the data source. Check where you have bound the record list. Otherwise, you will get only one single record.

It’s weird because when Run in the model to Data source mapping. I got a xlm file with multiple record… but I got only one record with the Configuration format export to Excel.

Hi, Can you possibly make some screenprints and open a new question in the dynamics community forum? Many thanks, Ludwig

Hi,
Its a great stuff to automate the reserve and provision calculation. Can you also make a video on how to create provision for slow-moving or obsolete inventory.

Hi Ludwig,
I also tried this Process and I am getting only one record in the excel sheet, have you figured out what might i have done something wrong? Same what Dan Dang is encountering. Please advise.

Hello Hayansaid, Most of the time it is the binding of the recordlist element that is not done right. Please check this out and you should see multiple lines in the excel. Best regards, Ludwig

Hi hayansaid, I checked my backups but cannot find the original ER elements that I used. Not sure how I can help you here. Can you possibly create a new thread on the community site and share some screenprints? Many thanks, Ludwig
